Highland Perthshire is known for its outstanding scenery and on this new tour we take in some of the regions highlights from our base in the bustling city of Perth. We include visits to Scone Palace, the Black Watch Museum, Blair Castle and the former Royal Yacht Britannia - A fantastic break in the heart of Scotland!
Day 1 SUNDAY We travel north with suitable refreshment stops along the way, arriving at our overnight hotel in Preston in time for dinner.
Day 2 MONDAY Our journey continues travelling through the scenic Borders Region to the fair city of Perth and our 4-night stay at the Royal George Hotel.
Day 3 TUESDAY After breakfast we are met by a local coach for today’s excursion. Our first visit is to the Black Watch Museum where we are treated to a one-hour guided tour that will bring to life the fascinating story of Scotland’s oldest Highland regiment. Next, we follow in the footsteps of countless kings as we explore Scone Palace. Explore the unique collections at your own pace with guides in each room to answer questions before stepping outside where over 100 acres of fabulous Perthshire grounds are waiting to be discovered.
Day 4 WEDNESDAY A leisurely morning drive to Pitlochry where we have time to explore the many shops, cafés and restaurants in a pictureperfect setting. We continue to Loch Tummel and the marvellous Queens View, viewpoint. Next, we visit Blair Castle, home to the Dukes of Atholl for 19 generations where we discover the opulently decorated rooms that display paintings, furniture and artefacts that have been gathered over the years.
Day 5 THURSDAY A full day exploring the lovely landscape and lochs of the region. Begin by heading towards Aberfeldy, Scotland's first Fairtrade town. Pass Taymouth Castle at Kenmore village on the shores of glorious Loch Tay. Journey along the loch side to arrive in Killin, to take in the spectacular 'Falls of Dochart'. Our final stop is at the traditional Scottish market town of Crieff, birthplace of Ewan McGregor.
Day 6 FRIDAY Departing Perth we drive to Leith where we step aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia – a Royal residence of the late Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for over 40 years. Discover across five decks the stories of what life at sea was like for both the Royal Family and the 220 Royal Yachtsmen who served on board. In the afternoon we continue south into Northumbria and our final night at the Holiday Inn, Gosforth Park near Newcastle.
Day 7 SATURDAY After breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.
This hotel is centrally situated alongside the River Tay. The 45 bedrooms are charmingly decorated with many having views of the river and the hotel's award-winning gardens. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, Wi-Fi and tea/coffee facilities. The restaurant serves traditional Scottish food with river views. Facilities include the MacGregor lounge/bar, a sun lounge and an onsite residents games room. The Royal George is over 200 years old and was once visited by Queen Victoria. The hotel does not have a lift, and all rooms are accessible by stairwell only. .
