The lovely county of Shropshire must surely be one of England’s secret gems. Enjoying some of the country’s finest unspoilt scenery, these tranquil borderlands of meadows, wooded hillsides, lakes and half-timbered villages are a delight to explore. We have also added a visit to the Ironbridge Gorge, free time in Shrewsbury and a visit to the delightful Blists Hill Living Museum.
Day 1 MONDAY Leaving the local area this morning we travel towards Shropshire and our hotel, stopping en route for lunch and refreshments.
Day 2 TUESDAY Today we visit Shrewsbury, one of England's finest medieval market towns, with over 600 listed buildings and many black & white half-timbered Tudor buildings. Sit back and relax on a cruise along the River Severn loop, before exploring this lovely town, which was the birthplace of Charles Darwin.
Day 3 WEDNESDAY Today we visit the Blists Hill Victorian Town Museum where you will experience what life was like when Britain ruled the world. Meet some (almost) real Victorians in their authentic shops and cottages, buy curious goods from a bygone era and watch tradespeople in action in their atmospheric workshops and factories.
Day 4 THURSDAY This morning, we board our horse drawn boat for a cruise along the Llangollen Canal. This afternoon we join the Llangollen Railway for a trip beside the River Dee, through countryside classified as Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Day 5 FRIDAY Departing after breakfast, we take a scenic route home, stopping in the Cotswolds for refreshments. We arrive in the local area late afternoon.
